The meters were originally viewed as a totally rad way of dealing with parking in town with COMPUTERS, which for those not in the area, is limited and has spawned “Breaking Bad”-levels of DIY problem-solving.
How bad was using one of those multi-space meters? Imagine throwing your money at a fire hydrant - actually throwing quarters at the hydrant, mind you - but with the added bonus that the hydrant had a computer on it that did nothing but consume electricity and help slowly contribute to climate change.
